Persephone
"Using movement and dance that is both playful and erotic, as well as music and song – and with a delightful comedic introduction to the tale – the ensemble does a remarkable job with the storytelling." - Life With More Cowbell
"Brilliant ensemble work, evocative physicality and some powerful language." - NOW Magazine (NNNN)
"Across the board, from the visuals to the acting and the dance, this is an impressive show to watch." - Mooney On Theatre (Critics Pick)
Persephone premiered as part of the 2016 Toronto Fringe Festival and was met with rave reviews. Collectively created by thirteen interdisciplinary artists, the Greek myth of a young girl’s abduction to the underworld is told from a feminist perspective. A story of resilience, sexual awakening and coming of age, Persephone deals with issues that are (in light of recent events) especially relevant to Toronto today: the nature of consent and the confusing road to recovery.
